5 things you MUST do before you go on holidays

It seems like everyone is going on overseas holidays at the moment…maybe in an effort to escape the cooler weather?

In any case, if you don’t prepare yourself effectively, travel can wreak havoc on your body, especially your immune system, causing you to arrive at your destination feeling a little under the weather.

Whether you’re travelling for leisure (lucky you!) or work, there are simple ways to support your body naturally before you leave for your trip.

5 Pre-flight Must-do’s:

1. Drink Water
Make sure you’re properly hydrated before you fly – drink adequate amounts of pure water in combination with the water you get from the fresh fruit and vegetables you eat on the day you fly out. Due to travel restrictions with carrying liquids, you will need to buy a bottle of water in duty free and take it with you on the plane to keep refilling. On the day you’re flying, drink water only – coffee and tea can be dehydrating and you need to get on the plane well hydrated.

2. Sleep
Get a good night’s sleep before you fly out – running yourself into the ground before you leave for your trip and trying to work extra hard will result in a depressed immune system which is not the way you want to go away on your holiday as you will crash when you get on the plane or when you arrive at your destination

3. Eat Well
Go easy on your digestive system a few days before your flight by eating nutritious foods high in vegetables and low in processed foods and take a probiotic twice a day in the days leading up to your trip as they aid your digestion and will prepare your gut for your trip

4. Exercise
Exercising the day you’re flying out is a MUST to boost your circulation, reduce your risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and because you’ll be sitting cramped up for hours on end.

5. Boost Your Immune System
Prepare and boost your immune system with herbs and foods that are high in antioxidants and immune-boosting properties so that you don’t pick up any nasty viruses flying around in that lovely recycled airplane air:

o Antioxidants are essential in mopping up the free radicals that are created by the ionising radiation we get exposed to on flights – Supplements that contain antioxidants include vitamin C, ubiquinol and glutathione
o Green food supplements such as spirulina or chlorella

So make sure you prepare your body BEFORE you leave…and you will make the most out of your trip!
