When the weather is cold outside – I tend to up my health regime with the following:
MORE garlic in my diet – especially when there are so many viruses going around…I’m not keen on picking something up from someone else – so I use garlic to improve my immune system. Simply adding it to whatever I’m cooking for dinner does the trick – whether it’s roast vegggies, stir fry or even a soup!
MORE fish & healthy fats such as olive oil, coconut oil and avocado. I don’t know about you, but as soon as the temperature drops outside, my skin starts to get cracked and dry up. And while external moisturisers to the skin can be useful, they’re never as good as nourishing my skin from the inside! Your skin needs an extra dose of Omega 3’s during the colder months from fish such as salmon, herring and sardines – and they’re also known to help improve your immune system (double win!)
MORE warming foods. While I still have the occasional smoothie during the colder months, my soup and stew intake increases dramatically – as does my tea! Foods that are warm will literally warm you up from the inside out – and adding warming spices and herbs such as chilli and ginger are also great for winter.
And lastly…MORE SUN! (When it’s out) – there’s not much you can do when it’s raining outside…but when the sun comes out during winter, I try to get out for at least 15-20 minutes, exposing my skin to the sun to increase my body’s levels of vitamin D (which tend to drop in the colder, darker months) as well as my MOOD! There’s something magical about getting those rays that lift me up and make me feel good 🙂
I hope you find these useful in keeping yourself warm this winter!
Have a great week,
